Colts new QB Andrew Luck in Indianapolis but wary of walking in Peyton Manning’s shoes-NFL News
Indianapolis Colts’ new quarterback, Andrew Luck, has landed in the city, which has recently marked the departure of its former star, Peyton Manning.
Luck is apparently happy about his arrival but he will have to wait until June 07, 2012 before he takes part in any formal activity of the team.
Luck will soon be heading back to Stanford College to finish his two remaining courses, and the National Football League (NFL) rules prohibit him from taking part in any recognised activity of the team until then.
However, he still has some time left to take part in a three-day rookie camp of the team next weekend. The camp is most sort of an induction phase of the rookie players and the league rules have some relaxation in cases such as of Luck’s
that they can attended those events.
Practically and formally, he is expected to join the team most probably on the eve of the preseason. Colts’ owner, Jim Irsay, who is already aware of the player’s situation, has said he will be flexible to accommodate his late arrival.
Luck started his new journey from straight behind the same podium just like the way Peyton Manning had done after his arrival at the team’s stadium in 1998.
Luck, however, admitted that it will be too difficult for him to fill in Manning’s shoes and match the standard of his performance.
He said of Peyton Manning:
"He (Manning) was the epitome of class and winning and everything he did was so gracious."
He added:
"In college you're watching film of Peyton and Aaron Rodgers and Tom Brady to see why they're so successful. He's such a great example for high school kids, middle school kids. I was one of those kids who looked up to him."
Meanwhile, Irsay is pleased over the successful completion of the process of signing Luck. He praised the level of maturity that the rookie had shown while handling his situation before the draft.
Irsay said:
"When I was doing the interview process and talked to some of the best people in the business, they almost universally said, 'He's the best player. That greatness has followed him around, and he has really handled that with so much humility."
Apparently, the owner is confident of his choice and is hopeful of the player’s talent and skills.
