  1. 10ft and 50lbs they are pretty big they are amazing creatures I had one and I know people would put me in the funny farm if I said this but I am sure that snake knew who I was and for what it was worth cared about me . The one I had was extremely good natured however i know that this is not true for all of them it has been told they can be nasty . I would start out with at least a 20gallon long tank I eventually had to go to a 55 gallon long tank my was six feet when I had to aprt with him as I had to move. They live a very long time 25 years or better thats one of the things that attracted me to them. I did not want a pet to die after ten years. I still miss my snake now. When they are small I would definitely get a heat light as they grow older and get bigger I dont think it is necessary. Never NEVER NEVER feed them anything live i dont care what anyone tells you that is half the reason they develop an aggressive personality and you would be setting yourself up to get bit as then they learn to eat what "MOVES" thats not what you want . They are escape artists and they will want to get out of the constrainsts of a cage I put clips on mine when I first had the 20 gallon tank when i got the 55 gallon long tank the lid pushed in to close it and he would butt hiss head against it and get out and I am being honest he would be out all day long with my 20 lb cat that he could have easily eaten and the cat was fine. They are incredible creatures if you KNOW what you are doing

  2. Well first thing first, they are just WONDERFUL snakes =]

    1. They can get up to 7-8(average) feet and sometime even more(up to 12 feet) There lifespan varies from 25-30 years(depends on how you take care of them) The weight just depends on the length(size) so if there is a 12 feet red tail boa he/she would be around 80lbs. The smaller the snake, the less it would weigh.

    2. The main requirement is a tank. You can start out with a 20 gallon or maybe a 10 gallon for when it is a baby but when it gets big, you would have to deal with tanks that are about 150 gallon. But you can just make on encloser if you want. There is alot of requirements for them because they are so big. The basics are just the heat(around 80-92F) And have plenty of water for them. Some red tail boas like to soak themselves in the water.

    3. As a baby, they can start eating fuzzies and move on to hoppers, then slowly move on to full grown mice then rats, then jumbo rats(through the years) but I would ALWAYS recommend frozen/thawed feeders(you can get them in a local pet store or Petsmart). Most red tail boas are usually good eaters(at least the ones I've owned and the ones I've dealt with are) so it shouldn't be a problem when it comes to feeding them thawed feeders.

    4. I'm not going to lie to you about their temperment. When babies they CAN tend to strike and bit BUT it's nothing to worry about. Most baby red tail boas(I've handle over 50) are usually calm and docile...then you have the odd balls who does strike and bit(easiest thing is not to buy that one) BUT when they becomes mature...their temperment could change. When a snake becomes mature, it's like when a child becomes a teenager, they becomes more curious and more rebellious against the parents. Their whole temperment can change and they can become more aggressive. All red tail boas are like that. One of my friend's red tail boa who he had all of life started bitting one day. So that's the risk of owning a red tail boa. Though there is a low risk that they could be like that...but there is always a chance. So it's just a risk you have to take. It doesn't matter how much you hold it as a baby...it can change(best thing to do it buy an adult) Maturity for a red tail boa is when he/she is around 2-3 feet(doesn't matter in years) so after they hit that size, and still hasn't really "attack" anyone then your boa is a nice boa! =]

    5. There will always be some sort of risk when owning a red tail boa or just owning any snake. You don't know what they are going to do. I would also recommend NOT buying from Petsmart or Petco. Most of their animals aren't in a healthy condition. Most of their snakes usually suffer from respiratory infection. So if you want a healthy boa, try buying from local pet stores or many do research on the store or ask people what they would recommend.

The link below is the red tail boa care sheet. So if there is anything you need to know about them....just click below. I've tried to cover as much as I can on them. But there is so much more I couldn't cover without typing for hours on end.

  3. 1. red tails usually reach about 7-9ft but can reach up to 12ft

, they can live for over 20 years, weight will depend on the size of your boa.

    2. an adult will IMO require a minimum of a 6x2x2 enclosure, hatchling and juveniles will require less room.

    3. Feed an appropriate sized mouse/rat once a week, The prey item should be no bigger than the thickest part of the snake.

    4. In my experience boas have an excellent temperament, but like any other wild animal they can be unpredictable.

  4. i love this snake heres what i know

they can reach up to 12feet weigh up to 50 pounds and live more then 15 years! if buying a baby (about 1foot long) u should start out with a 40 gallon. a 20 will work but not last long. by the time they reach 6ft. they should be in a 50 gallon reptile tank. with the temp. around 85-90 degrees. with misting every other day.

depending on how often u handle them will be the out come of the temperament. most babies are Little nippy but that will quickly fade away with time.
