Columbus Blue Jackets Brandon Dubinsky breaks Finger Playing for Alaska Aces -NHL Update
Brandon Dubinsky, being the physical player that he is, attempted to block a shot while playing for the Alaska Aces on Saturday, during an East Coast Hockey League (ECHL) matchup and broke his finger in the process.
It was reported earlier that he suffered from a broken hand, but luckily, it was just a finger as the centre player, going on instinct, gave it his all to block the shot and hurt himself doing so.
"Knowing Brandon, it was intentional; we was trying to block a shot," Kurt Overhardt, Dubinsky's agent, told The Dispatch. "The good news is it's a clean break. The recovery shouldn't be too long. He's broken a bone in the same hand before, but in a different
place, different bone."
Dubinsky is currently playing for his hometown team in the minor leagues and is reported to be placed on the injured reserve list as reports show that it could take him somewhere from three to six weeks for a full recovery. The shot was made by Calgary Flames’
Jay Bouwmeester during the third period of the minor league matchup.
Talking with The Dispatch about how he has a number of players currently signed on with foreign leagues, Overhardt acknowledged that doing so is always risky business.
"I've got guys all over the world playing, and, yeah, it's something you think about every day," Overhardt added. "But there's a trade off here. Brandon wants to be ready to play hockey for the Columbus Blue Jackets. He wanted to play so he could stay ready.
He knows that when it does get settled, he's going to have a huge role, a huge responsibility with that club."
Dubinsky is a 60th overall draft pick of the New York Rangers of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft and was a key member of the New York club and is set to make his appearance with the Columbus Blue Jackets as he was acquired by the struggling club over
the offseason.
In a total of 393 games played, Brandon Dubinsky has a total of 213 points, of which 81 are goals along with 132 assists.
