Columbus Blue Jackets Fedor Tyutin signs with Atlant Mytishchi of KHL -NHL Lockout Update
Columbus Blue Jackets 29-year-old defenseman, Fedor Tyutin, has finally made the move that he indicated earlier in October, by signing on to a Russian, Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) franchise in order to continue playing during the National Hockey League
(NHL) lockout.
According to recent reports, the defender has signed on to the Atlant Mytishchi of the KHL, which was announced on the team’s official website and coach Alexander Smirnov has termed his joining to be “in the nearest future.”
Tyutin is a native of Izhevsk, Russia, and was picked up by the New York Rangers as the 40th overall draft pick during round-two of the 2001 NHL Entry Draft. He participated in the North American major league with his original draft team for four
seasons before being acquired by the Columbus Blue Jackets.
His best career season was in 2008-2009 with Columbus as he picked up 34 points (9 goals, 25 assists) in 82 games played with 81 minutes of penalty time as well.
Almost two months have passed by since the NHL lockout came into force with the previous collective bargaining agreement coming to an end on September 15, 2012. It is hard to see any new labour deal coming into play as both the league and Players’ Association
have a lot of progress to make, while experts term that there will be no hockey year at all this time around.
In a total of 558 games under his belt, Fedor Tyutin boasts a career record of 185 points, 42 goals and 143 assists to his name along with 370 minutes in the penalty box. He is an integral part of the Columbus Blue Jackets squad and is a key member when
it comes to penalty killing.
Currently, Fedor Tyutin is on a six-year contract with the Columbus Blue Jackets, worth a total of $27 million which will make him an unrestricted free agent when it comes to an end following the 2017-2018 NHL regular season.
It will definitely be interesting to see how the defenseman plays overseas and performs with a new team over the lockout period and whether or not he comes back if the lockout ends early.
