Columbus Blue Jackets General Manager Scott Howson to stay active till deadline -NHL Update
Scott Howson has been cleaning house nowadays and staying busy by making headlines as he continues to trade some of his big name players, but according to the Columbus Blue Jackets general manager, he will be most likely to make some more moves before the
February 27 trade deadline.
Ever since joining the struggling club as their general manager back in 2007, Scott Howson has truly dared to make some risky moves but it has been nearly five years and Columbus still is ranked as the lowest team throughout the National Hockey League (NHL).
Columbus was involved in a blockbuster deal during the 2011 offseason by acquiring Jeff Carter from Philadelphia Flyers, a move which certainly surprised a lot of people, along with grabbing one of best defenseman from Montreal Canadiens, James Wisniewski.
But what was supposed to be a turnaround for the Columbus club has just gone right down the drain for another repeat at the bottom of the West and the NHL.
Despite all failed attempts up until now, Howson is trying and will continue doing so.
"I’ve been pretty clear about what I’m saying," Howson said after trading Jeff Carter to Los Angeles Kings on Thursday. "We’re looking at every and all opportunities to improve this hockey team; but I’m not going to comment on any specific situation or specific
player."
By getting a first round draft pick from Los Angeles, Scott Howson was not only able to get a grab at a top future prospect but also freed up some much needed salary cap space as Carter was being paid a little over $5 million each season.
“I think I said it was the beginning of the reshaping of the team, which doesn’t necessarily mean rebuilding," Howson added. "I expect to be very busy here, very active. It’s going to be a very busy few days leading up to 3 p.m. Monday."
Rick Nash, Columbus’ star player and captain, is reportedly also on the list of players that may be traded in upcoming days before the deadline, which is definitely a highly anticipated move.
At the moment, it is not sure who Howson is eyeing but one thing is clear which is he is back to his aggressive ways that did not pay off at all this season.
