Columbus Blue Jackets Kristian Huselius to make move to Swedish Elite League -NHL Lockout Update
Having had missed out nearly on the entire 2011-2012 National Hockey League (NHL) regular season, Columbus Blue Jackets’ Kristian Huselius is looking forward now to playing some hockey and he certainly knows that it is currently not a possibility in North
America at the moment.
The 34-year-old veteran left winger is a native of Osterhaininge, Sweden, and has been reported to be joining the AIK team in the Swedish Elite league, according to Swedish media outlets Dagens Nyheter and Aftonbladet.
He is further reported to have been already practicing with the team in order to ensure there are no setbacks due to a previous injury that kept him mostly out of the previous hockey season as he took the road to recovery and has had the extra time to do
so due to the lengthy lockout situation in the NHL thus far.
Huselius is a former 47th overall draft pick of the Florida Panthers during round-two of the 1997 NHL Entry Draft and played in nearly four seasons with them before making the move to Calgary to be a part of the Flames franchise. 2008-2009 had
him back in America, this time with the Columbus Blue Jackets, of which he has now been with for four straight seasons.
In a total of 662 games played thus far, the Swedish veteran boasts 451 points (190 goals, 261 assists) to his name along with 256 minutes of penalty time. Standing at six-foot-two and 184 pounds, the left winger definitely has a dominating personality on
the ice, which is what most teams use him for when they do.
At the moment, Huselius is also an unrestricted free agent after his four-year agreement with the Columbus Blue Jackets came to an end following the 2011-2012 NHL regular season and is yet to be signed on by any other hockey club. The four-season long deal
was worth a total of $19 million, which had him making a total of $4.75 million yearly.
It will definitely be interesting to follow Kristian Huselius in the Swedish Elite League as he may make an appearance as soon as this week or the next.
