Columbus Blue Jackets Top Prospect Ryan Murray Injured -NHL Update
The Columbus Blue Jackets top prospect, Ryan Murray, has reportedly injured his shoulder during a minor league matchup as he is currently playing with the Everett Silvertips of the Western Hockey League (WHL) at the moment.
It was the Columbus Dispatch who reported the news first, adding that he may have dislocated his shoulder after he fell during a matchup.
General Manager of the Columbus Blue Jackets, Scott Howson, talked to the newspaper and updated the media on what Murray was currently going through and when they may expect him to recover.
"It's not good news," Howson told the Dispatch. "Right now his arm is in a sling, held tight to his body, and he's in a lot of pain. He'll have an MRI [exam] early this week, and then we'll know more.”
"You'll have to see how much damage he's done to the labrum. Does he have any broken bones from the thrust of the fall? Once it's come out, it tends to come out easier in the future. Our doctors will take a look at the tests and we'll decide the next step."
The 19-year-old was picked up by Columbus as the second overall back in round-one of the 2012 National Hockey League (NHL) Entry Draft and is said to be a player that the Blue Jackets look to capitalise from in the near future. There has been no set date
for when the medical staff expect a full recovery, but the picture will become a lot clearer in the upcoming days as his status is reviewed.
Ryan Murray is a defenseman from Regina, Saskatoon, Canada, and has been playing with the Silvertips in the WHL for the past couple of seasons. During the current season, the youngster picked up two goals and 15 assists in 23 games up until now and was also
said to be a contender to play for Canada in next month’s World Junior Champions.
Updates should be expected in the next couple of days as his status is revaluated by competent authorities. Columbus fans eagerly await the news of his recovery date so that he may get back to some hockey action.
