Columbus Blue Jackets' GM Scott Howson 'working very hard' to trade Rick Nash -NHL Update
Columbus Blue Jackets’ general manager, Scott Howson, found out that reports had emerged about him not taking the Rick Nash trade issue as serious as he should be, but the top man of the team came out on Thursday, July 5, 2012, and regarded himself as ‘working very hard’ in that regard.
Not only did Howson term the procedure not as easy as everything thinks it is, but also that he does not have a deadline for the completion of the trade and will do it as he pleases best for the team.
Obviously, it is only fair to say that Howson will trade for the best in order to fill that gap but with the market shrivelling up as players continue to sign on to clubs around the National Hockey League (NHL), the GM will have to work harder.
Zach Parise and Ryan Suter's entry into the free agency had seriously taken Rick Nash out of the limelight, especially since he is not a free agent, but now as both have signed on with Minnesota Wild, Columbus can work towards making a demand now.
For Rick Nash, his whole career has been spent in Columbus thus far after he was drafted by the Blue Jackets as the first overall back in 2002, but now, as he is clearly seeing no improvement, the 28-year-old believes that trading for some top talent might be best for both stakeholders.
"I was informed by management that there was a rebuild, a reshape, in the team and I personally felt I could be a huge part of that toward bringing assets in," Nash said. "In my view, that was the best thing for the team, the organization, and personally for my career."
Asked about whether he would sit out the season if a trade does not come into play by then, Nash answered in the negative and put off the view that there was a personal tussle with the Columbus management.
"Ah, that's something that we'll cross when it comes," Nash added. "But as of right now I'll wear this jersey with pride, like I always have. I think I've always played my heart out for (the team's owners). And I will continue to do that as long as I'm a Blue Jacket."
