Columbus Blue Jackets burnout Calgary Flames 4-1 for second straight win -NHL Match Update
The Columbus Blue Jackets finally look to have gotten serious in their game play by winning their second straight matchup on Monday night, November 21, 2011, against the Calgary Flames, 4-1, at the Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio, United States.
Other than that, the Columbus Blue Jackets are on a winning streak of more than one game in a row for the first time in the 2011-2012 National Hockey League (NHL) regular season, due to which they are sitting at the lowest spot in the league with 12 points
in the Western Conference.
With their winning back on track, the Blue Jackets hope that they can continue with this momentum and finally start collecting some points.
"We had talked about chemistry and getting the whole team together and having everybody out there on the same page," Columbus coach, Scott Arniel said. "It's starting to evolve into that."
Jeff Carter opened the scoring at the 3:01 mark of the initial period for his second of the season while Antoine Vermette  added another for the Blue Jackets nearly four minutes later, giving the home team a strong lead to build on.
Curtis Sanford was playing in the net for Columbus and managed to nearly earn a shutout by blocking 27 of 28 shots taken by the Flames on his end.
"He came in there after getting an injury and working his way back and got a chance to play," Carter said of surging Sanford. "He's done everything we've asked of him. It's been good to see."
Carter added his second of the night during an early power play opportunity in the second period as Calgary’s, T.J. Brodie, was booked for an illegal check to the head.
Mark Giordano potted Calgary’s first goal of the night during their only added man advantage of the period and brought the Flames back into the game but as captain, Rick Nash, put in his fifth with less than two minutes to go in the third, all hope for the
visitors was lost.
"They kept on coming right to the end," Sanford said. "We stayed on our toes."
The Blue Jackets have the next in New Jersey against the Devils on Wednesday while Calgary continues their four-game road trip, with their next in Detroit against the Red Wings.
