Columbus Blue Jackets defeat the Minnesota Wild 5-4 in over-time – NHL Recap
The Columbus Blue Jackets beat the Minnesota Wild 5-4 in over-time at the Xcel Energy Centre on Saturday. Both teams are outside the National Hockey League play-offs and a win for either of the teams will put them close to the cut,
with only a few games left in the season.
The game started off with the Blue Jackets scoring the opening goal, but the Wild managed to score in the very next minute to level the game. The second period saw the Wild scoring to take the lead, but this time it was the Blue Jackets
who scored once again to level the score. In the final period both teams scored twice during the 20 minutes of play to keep the score on level terms. The game went into over-time, where the Blue Jackets scored to win the game 4-3 in the end.
Both teams made a decent start to the game, but it was the Blue Jackets that fired shots on goal and they finally managed to score in the 10th minute. The goal was scored by Captain Rick Nash from a well placed flick-shot.
The period moved on with both teams continuing to create chances for themselves. The Wild did not take long and scored in the very next minute to level the score. The goal was scored by Brad Staubitz from a quick fired shot that quickly
went into the back of the net.
Both teams piled up quite a few shots on goal, but none found the back of the net, as the period ended with the score level on 1-1. During the course of the period the Wild made 14 shots on goal, while the Blue Jackets managed 10 attempts.
The second period kicked off with the Wild dominating the early play, which saw them coming across quite a few chances. They were able to capitalize from the strong start and scored through Cal Cutterbuck from a quick shot to get into
the lead for the first time. The period saw the home team coming up with shots, but the Blue Jackets were able to come up with shots of their own.
The Blue Jackets managed to score in the final minute through Kris Russell from a powerful strike to level the score. The second period ended with the score level on 2-2, as the Wild made 9 shots on goal, while the Blue Jackets managed

The Blue Jackets scored in the fifth minute of the third period through Jan Hejda from a powerful strike to get into the lead. The Blue Jackets scored once again in the 14th minute to double their lead. However, the Wild
managed to score twice in the remaining part of the period with the first goal scored through Antti Miettinen and the second through Pierre-Marc Bouchard in the 18th minute.
The third period ended with the score level on 4-4 and the game went into over-time. Antoine Vermette scored for the Blue Jackets to win the game 5-4 in the end.
