Columbus Blue Jackets dominate despite playing away and win 4-1 against the Pittsburgh Penguins
The third game of Tuesday was played at the Consol Energy Centre with the home team Pittsburgh Penguins playing host to the Columbus Blue Jackets. Penguins had a very big chance of winning the match but unfortunately for them, it was Columbus Blue Jackets
who came up with a dominating 4-1 win in the end.
Pittsburgh Penguins and the Columbus Blue Jackets might have been equal in terms of goal attempts during the three periods but the Blue Jackets came up with some wonderful pieces of play that led to goals during the game. Steve Mason, goal keeper of the
Blue Jackets was named the star selection of the match for his 0.970 save percentage he maintained after making 32 saves in the game.
Both teams didn’t take long to attack and come up with strong offensive plays which met the expectations. Though it looked as if Pittsburgh Penguins would score the early goal but Columbus Blue Jackets turn the tables and scored in the 7th minute
through Captain Rick Nash to get into the lead.
There were several goal attempts made by both teams during the remaining part of the period but the shots kept on going wide off the target. Pittsburgh Penguins had a very good chance in the dying stages of the period but the Blue Jackets goal keeper made
a brilliant save.
The period ended with the Columbus Blue Jackets leading 1-0. During the period Columbus Blue Jackets made 14 goal attempts while Pittsburgh Penguins made 13 goal attempts.
The second 20 minutes of play saw the Blue Jackets and the Penguins both fight it out hard as they looked to score goals. Penguins home crowd was silenced as Columbus Blue Jackets doubled the lead with their second goal in the 9th minute scored
by Samuel Pahlsson from a decent strike.
Both teams moved forward and attacks started to increase. However, once again it was Columbus Blue Jackets who scored in the 18th minute to extend their lead. The goal was scored by Jakub Voracek from a brilliant backhand shot. The period ended
with Columbus Blue Jackets leading 3-0 and they made 8 goal attempts in the period while Penguins made 10 goal attempts.
The final period saw the Penguins dominate the proceeding in the opening stages of the match. They managed to score a goal in the 8th minute scored by Tyler Kennedy but it was a little too late. Penguins were in hope of a comeback and attacked
with full force but they were caught on counter attacks out which one saw the Columbus Blue Jackets scoring to seal the win.
The goal was scored by Antoine Vermette from a decent flick shot in the 14th minute. Pittsburgh Penguins still continued to attack and some brilliant pieces of play were observed but they couldn’t score as the period ended. During the period Columbus
Blue Jackets made 3 goal attempts while the Pittsburgh Penguins made 10 goal attempts with Blue Jackets winning the match 4-1 in the end.
