Columbus Blue Jackets looking to trade No.2 Entry Draft Pick -NHL Offseason Update
Columbus Blue Jackets’ general manager, Scott Howson, is definitely working towards improving his struggling National Hockey League (NHL) franchise, which has failed to impress during the past few season, and now in an attempt to do so, trading his second
overall pick could be one of those moves.
Howson came out and talked to the media on Thursday, June 14, 2012, about using the second overall pick to fish in a big name player from teams around the league and according to latest reports, various clubs have begun to show interest in the No. 2 pick
for the upcoming 2012 NHL Entry Draft.
"We've certainly listened to people. We've had a couple of expressions of interest on the pick in terms of moving down," Howson said talking to a local radio show. "We wouldn't want to move too far down so we'll just see how it plays out next week. Traditionally,
and if history repeats itself, teams get a little more serious about exchanging picks as we get closer to the draft on the draft floor."
There is little time left for Scott Howson, who has been the general manager of the Columbus Blue Jackets club since 2007, to make his team one of the top performers and it looks like the next hockey regular season could be his last if all attempts fail
again.
"We'd be open to any suggestions," The GM added. "It's not an easy trade to trade out of the two slot, or one slot or three slot for that matter."
Columbus Blue Jackets made some big moves during last year’s offseason by picking up some top-level players like Jeff Carter of the Philadelphia Flyers in a blockbuster deal but things have unfortunately, just not been working his way.
They ended the 2011-2012 NHL regular season once again at the bottom of the league at number 30th overall with just 65 points while the last team in the East, Montreal Canadiens, had 78.
For Scott Howson, the previous season is something they have now left behind and look forward to moving on and playing it fresh.
