Columbus Blue Jackets manages a 3-2 win in a shootout following a goalless overtime against Florida Panthers

Columbus Blue Jackets played Florida Panthers on home ice at the Nationwide Arena looking for a win and this is what it did as Columbus won 3-2 in the end after a shootout this Tuesday.
This was the second game of the day which had to be decided in a shootout. Both the teams are out of the play-off cut with Panthers trailing the final playoff spot by 15 points and Blue Jackets trailing by 11 points.
The game started with both teams coming up with the early attacks but it was Blue Jackets who scored the lone goal of the period to get into the lead.
The second period saw Panthers levelling the scores with an early goal but Blue Jackets was able to score and get back into the lead as the period neared its end.
Panthers with some decent ice hockey on display scored the lone goal once again to level the scores on 2-2 in the final period.
The game went into overtime but Blue Jackets emerged as 3-2 winners of the game after a shootout.
Steve Mason, goalkeeper of Blue Jackets, was named the star of the game as he made 29 saves out of the 31 shots fired towards his goal.  
Things got better for both teams with the passage of time in the first period as they didn’t seem to play according to any plan. The attacks and play-making got better and it was Blue Jackets who scored successfully through Scottie Upshall to get into the
lead through a quick fired shot.
The period saw both teams creating a couple of more chances for themselves but they weren’t able to score any further goals.
The period ended with Blue Jackets leading 1-0 going into the break as they made 11 shots on goal while Panthers made nine shots on goal.
The second period kicked off with both teams attacking and defending pretty well but it was Panthers who scored the early goal to level the scores. The goal was scored in the fourth minute through David Booth’s simple tip-in shot.
Blue Jackets also created a number of chances before it finally scored in the 19th minute through Antoine Vermette’s decent strike to get back into the lead.
The period ended with Blue Jackets leading 2-1 as it made 10 shots on goal while Panthers made nine shots on goal.
The final 20 minutes of play saw Panthers scoring the lone goal of the period to level the scores. The goal was scored by Evgeny Dadonov from a decent wrap around shot in the 8th minute.
The period ended with the scores level on 2-2 despite Blue Jackets making 8 shots on goal and Panthers firing 12 shots on goal.
The game went into overtime but no goals were scored there and Blue Jackets eventually won the game by 3-2 after a shootout.
