Columbus Blue Jackets play host to the San Jose Sharks
The second game of Wednesday will see the Columbus Blue Jackets host the San Jose Sharks at the Nationwide Arena. This is the fourth and final meeting between the two sides. Columbus Blue Jackets have won the second and the third meetings between the two
sides 3-2 in overtime and 3-0 respective. Sharks on the other hand won the first meeting 3-2 with Logan Couture scoring the winning goal of the game.
Some of the experts say the current San Jose Sharks is one of the units in the league that have got what it takes to win the Stanley Cup. The San Jose Sharks have come up with excellent performances recently. They have won all of their four games after the
All-Star weekend with the most recently coming against the Washington Capitals today. The game saw both teams evenly matched during the entire game but Sharks scored twice in the final period to win 2-0 in the end.
The Sharks have steadily climbed up the standings and are currently fourth in the Western Conference with 64 points. Columbus Blue Jackets are in hot form too after a dreadful last week which saw them almost falling out of the final play-off spot. However,
they managed to get back together and won all of the remaining four games with the most recent coming against the Pittsburgh Penguins, 4-1 this Tuesday.
Columbus Blue Jackets successfully took revenge of their last defeat against Pittsburgh Penguins. The Penguins came to the Nationwide Arena and scored five goals in the opening period on the 4th of December 2010 and went on to win the match 7-2
in the end embarrassing the team. However, this time as they went to Pittsburgh who had Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin missing from the roster.
Blue Jackets came up with a dominating performance which saw the winning 4-1 in the end. "I was frustrated after that. That was embarrassing, especially for myself, people watching it back home, and to see our team represented that way," center of Columbus
Blue Jackets R.J. Umberger said. "Tonight, it was in the back of our minds but, more than anything, the two points were first in our mind."
Columbus Blue Jackets have played 53 games in the season so far out which they have won 26 games in regulation time, 5 games in overtime and scored 57 points. San Jose Sharks have scored 64 points out of the 54 games they have played winning 29 games in
regulation time and 6 games in overtime.
San Jose Sharks have seen Logan Couture rise to the top of his game as he scoring on regular basis. His winning goal against the Washington Capitals was his 24th of the season and put him top in the list of goal scorers among rookies. Logan Couture
is in hot form and he passed Alex Ovechkin for most winning goals. In doing so he also made a record for a rookie to score eight game winning goals.
“It's getting to the point where you don't want to call him a rookie any more," San Jose coach Todd McLellan said, "because he plays big minutes, he's scoring huge goals. For a guy that just came off the flu, he was very effective."
The game is expected to be very tough and interesting with both teams practically similar. The game is expected to be a low scoring encounter but still very entertaining.
