Columbus Blue Jackets rattle San Jose Sharks with 6-3 win -NHL Update
San Jose stands third in the Western Conference while Columbus is the lowest ranked team throughout the National Hockey League (NHL), but that did not stop the Blue Jackets from having a little fun as they rattled the Sharks, 6-3, Tuesday night, February
21, 2012, at the Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio.
Columbus showed that despite their chances of making it to the playoffs this time around are very, very little to none, they are still focused on winning some games and preparing for next season when they get another chance.
Starting off the 2011-2012 NHL regular season with these types of victories and a levelled strategy, Columbus might have done some good for themselves, something which they certainly regret.
"I think that's kind of what we envisioned the start of the season," Blue Jackets’ forward, RJ Umberger, said. "It just didn't work out that way. Confidence has a lot to do with a lot of stuff. Tonight we got it early in the game."
The first period kicked off in a huge way as R.J. Umberger potted his 10th of the year, followed by Jeff Carter on the power play while Rick Nash potted another and Carter capped it off with his second of the night on an added man advantage yet
again.
San Jose attempted at a comeback in the second as Joe Thornton and Logan Couture fired off two straight less than 30 seconds apart but David Savard killed the Sharks momentum with his one-timer at the 10:59 mark while capitalising on a opposition’s penalty.
Jeff Carter completed his hat trick at 1:26 in the final period while Couture tried to bring San Jose back with a third on a power play chance of their own nearly midway through, but being their last, the Sharks were forced to take the loss.
"In the back of our mind we were kind of thinking about that game after the All-Star break when they got us pretty good," Carter said. "There was a little bit of a revenge factor there."
Columbus Blue Jackets have the next against Colorado Avalanche on Friday while San Jose Sharks continue their road trip, the next being against Toronto Maple Leafs on Thursday.
