Columbus Blue Jackets remain winless, lose to Dallas Stars 4-2 -NHL Match Update
Dallas Stars extended their winning streak to three straight by defeating the winless Columbus Blue Jackets club, 4-2, as Mike Ribeiro picked up three assists in the process, Saturday night, October 15, at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas, United
States.
Since their regular season kicked off on Friday, October 7, Columbus has now lost five straight contests, making them the team in the National Hockey League (NHL) with the highest number of losses, just ahead of Winnipeg Jets, who have lost all three of
theirs.
Looking to change the Dallas team around from what was a very disappointing performance last season, newly appointed head coach, Glen Gulutzan, thinks that his club is now headed in the right direction.
"Today shows our players that we have the ability to play a certain way and if we play that way, we're going to put ourselves in a position to have success every night", Dallas coach Glen Gulutzan said after the matchup. "We took a little step towards that".
Vaclav Prospal put Columbus ahead by one with his third of the season during their first power play opportunity nearly midway through the opening period. Dallas Stars captain did not let his club stay behind for long by scoring his second nearly five minutes
later to level the score.
Alexandre Giroux, who was recently recalled by Columbus from their farm league affiliate in the American Hockey League (AHL), scored his inaugural goal of the season 1:13 into the second period. Loui Eriksson put Dallas right back up eight minutes later.
It was all Dallas in the third and final period of regulation with Sheldon Souray scoring in the opening two minutes followed by Michael Ryder for his first on another added man advantage.
Blue Jackets were widely outshot by the Dallas franchise who attempted to score 33 times, compared to the 15 shots taken by the visiting team.
"It was an ugly game", Columbus head coach, Scott Arniel, said. "The first 10 minutes was not bad, but after that wasn't good. When you lose a game like that, there's no positives".
Stars look to continue their winning streak during their three game road trip as they face off again against Columbus Blue Jackets on Tuesday.
