Columbus Blue Jackets reportedly inquire about Los Angeles Kings goalie Jonathan Bernier -NHL Rumour
Nothing official yet about Los Angeles Kings goalie, Jonathan Bernier, but according to Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch, the Columbus Blue Jackets have inquired about the backup goalie and just might be in negotiations with the disgruntled goalie.
Blue Jackets know how a player reacts when he is unsatisfied with his current playing conditions, seeing how their captain Rick Nash is also looking forward to change teams this offseason, and could be making a smart move to acquire the goalie.
This, obviously, in no way should be mistaken for a possible trade for Rick Nash since Blue Jackets’ general manager, Scott Howson, has laid down the facts of wanting a couple of top-level forwards in-exchange for the face of their organisation.
Columbus already has a good track record of trading with the Los Angeles Kings as they gave Jeff Carter earlier during the 2011-2012 National Hockey League (NHL) regular season after he wanted to leave the struggling team. His decision ultimately turned
out to be a smart one as they went on to win their first Stanley Cup in franchise history.
For any trade to happen, there are still two months to go before any training camp or preseason begins, giving more than enough time to both sides in order to work out a smart deal.
Bernier might be known for being a goalie with a lot of potential and seeing how he and Jonathan Quick have spent so much time together, giving him an opportunity to unleash his talent could be the only thing stopping him from becoming a great.
The main issue that arises is the fact that Jonathan Bernier has played in just 48 games after being picked up as the 11th overall pick back in 2006. Columbus Blue Jackets could be giving up Jack Johnson, which would only take him back to Los
Angeles after being traded for Jeff Carter, but it would definitely be a gamble.
Los Angeles Kings have a clear number one in Jonathan Quick and Bernier realises that fact very well.
The upcoming days could get interest for Columbus Blue Jackets.
