Columbus Blue Jackets wins 2-1 against the Dallas Stars to win fifth game in a row
Dallas Stars playing host to the Columbus Blue Jackets was one of the low scoring game of Sunday but highly entertaining with both teams attacking constantly. Both teams were playing in the 56th game of their respective season with this being
the 839th game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series.
Throughout the games, shots were fired on goal every now and then and some brilliant pieces of play were on display by both teams. Columbus Blue Jackets scored in each of the first two periods to win the game 2-1 in the end. Steve Mason, goal keeper of the
Columbus Blue Jackets was named the star selection of the game with his 29 saves during the game.
Dallas Stars with the home advantage made a decent start to the game. Their passing and shooting and the start was accurate than their counterparts which enabled them to near the goal regularly. It wasn’t long until we saw the first goal of the game which
was scored by Brad Richards during power play in the 5th minute.
However, the lead didn’t last long as Columbus Blue Jackets scored in the very next minute to level the scores once again. The goal was scored by Matt Calvert from a well placed flick shot. After this, the game was all about the Blue Jackets who dominated
the game in every department. Shots flew from everywhere on ice by the Blue Jackets but unfortunately they couldn’t find the back of the net.
Strong passing and impressive work in the opposing half was the main essence of Blue Jackets play. Despite all this, the period ended with the scores level on 1-1 with Dallas Stars making 6 goal attempts while the Blue Jackets made 18 goal attempts.
The second period started off with the Blue Jackets quick out of the blocks and they capitalized from the start to the fullest. With some strong offensive play, the away side scored in the 7th minute through Captain Rick Nash from a brilliant
backhand shot.
Dallas Stars also emerged strong offensively in the period but their frontline wasn’t the same as in the first period. Blue Jackets defence was able to cope with any sort of pressure put on them and didn’t allow any goals. Their offence was also decent but
unfortunately they weren’t able to score despite coming across some easy scoring opportunities.
The period ended with the Blue Jackets leading 2-1 at the end of the period with Blue Jackets making 12 goal attempts in the period while Dallas Stars made 10 goal attempts.
The final period of the game saw shift in momentum after a strong start by the Blue Jackets. Dallas Stars were able to get very strong offensively as they constructed some absolutely brilliant plays. The only question was whether or not they could score.
The answer to this question is no, they couldn’t score.
The reason for this is the fact that some solid defending at the back by both teams resulted in no goals scored by either of the teams. During the course of the final period, Dallas Stars made 14 goal attempts while the Blue Jackets made 9 goal attempts.
Consequently, Blue Jackets won the game with a slender lead of 2-1.
