When my husband was hired and the dress code is Business Casual ( as stated in HR Manual) Then the Regional Manager implements “ Effective immediately you need to be wearing ties while at work. The only exception to this would be if you are out in the field doing maintenance related work or if temperatures are reaching the 90's.” Is there anything I can do? It seems like it was just changed to Business professional? Any Ideas???

I know I could contact American Civil Liberties Union to see if I have a case !!?!

  1. No.

  2. The company can do as they wish.   If the dress code has changed and you are unwilling to accept the new rules you have the option of finding employment elsewhere.   Since you didn't give enough back ground on this such as,  has the dress code been violated   are people showing up looking slovenly,  there had to be a reason for the change.  get over it or leave the company.   This company hired you and I am sure they are not the only company that could use your talents

    mr  doodles

  3. yes there is something you can do. Actually two things.

    1) Stop complaining

    2) go buy some ties

  4. Provided the company has provided notice, they can change the rules in any way they like.  Nobody has any say, including the ACLU, the FBI, or the CIA/

They could mandate Mickey Mouse ears if they want, and it's perfectly legal.  A Tie is certainly not an issue.

  5. ok..

so i am in a school were unifrom is required. I hate it...but you dont have to worry about who got  thier clothes from where. So if i were you i would just accept it and move on.

    just giving advice.

    :)

  6. Policy changes can be a little tricky when it comes to altering the wording on the employee handbook.  Business Casual can mean wearing ties and if there is a clause in the handbook that allows the manager to implement a department dress code then it can happen. In other words, just because it says Business Casual it doesn't mean that a manager can't implement more professional standards.

The ACLU can not help you since civil liberties were not affected. Unless your husband worships a crazy religion that prohibits you from wearing ties.

The only way you can really help him in this case is to go out and buy him some ties.

  7. You should like totally call the like ACLU, the NAACP, the NCAA and NAMBLA.  How dare an independent company require its employees to wear ties.  Like OMG!

Don't listen to these other people.  They don't know!  You must rebel!  Tell your husband to wear bolo ties, bow ties, railroad ties, breadbag ties... anything but regular old ties.  But still call the ACLU, NAACP, NCAA, and NAMBLA and get the ball rolling on the law suit.

  8. They should afford you some notice, to give you time to get the appropriate attire, but even that I don't think is a legal requirement, just a courtesy.

  9. There is absolutely nothing illegal about changing the dress code. Unless you have a CONTRACT stipulating otherwise, time to dress up!

  10. Of course this is LEGAL  geeeeeezzz

Yeah call the ACLU  even they will laugh at you.

  11. There is nothing illegal about this.

You want to contact the ACLU because your husband's company is requiring neck ties (a common element of business dress) in its dress code.  Seriously?  Wow.

  12. This is not a civil rights case!

A company can change the rules anytime they want. In fact, you can be terminated "at-will" in most states without a reason. Get over it and starting wearing a tie. He can also wear a dress and get away with it.
