  1. Listen, this profession like all others is dangerous. You can get killed just from HALO jumping. Your deployments vary according optempo of whatever STT your assigned to. That info won't be pulished here since it is OPSEC and no one here needs to know.

Your not going to do a job, not career, like this if your afraid of 'eating meat'. Anyway, their casulaties are low and deaths are rare (not KIA, that's not proper here for any servicemember), but of course there are dangers.

Talk to some CCTs and get the facts from them. That's the best way to find out. Not here on YA, but through the AF operators and a good, knowledgeable AF recruiter (who knows about CCT operations, maybe ex-CCT or PJ or STT at least).

  2. Combat Controllers are a part of Special Operations Command. Thus, much of what they do won't be available for public consumption. They do deploy more than the average airman, no doubt about that.

They do suffer casualties, as any ground combat force should expect. However, it isn't anything that should cause too much concern. You're far more likely to live through an enlistment than not.

For what it is worth, the last time I checked you could not choose to be a Combat Controller. You entered a program which could assign you as a CCT or a PJ.

If that job is something you're really interested in also look into ANGLICO in the Marine Corps. The mission is very similar, so you should consider all of your options.

  3. CCT's average around 3 months deplyment per year.

  4. You won't see much for combat controllers because missions are classified. I haven't seen anything in recent months regarding the death of a of one them. It's mostly the cops that get hurt since they're out on convoy duty and search pits. You could check the VFW website for lists of KIA they may have it, their magazine does. You'll have to pick a job and have your recruiter check with Lackland to see when they are doing testing for it. I think they only do it once every 3 cycles. CCT go one week, PJ's another and TACP yet another.
