Comcast HD cable box..?

I hear there is a switch on the Comcast box (HD) that will switch from 768 to 1080i.??? Where is this switch.?? Or is it hidden somewhere in a menu.? I see little difference between analog and HD broadcasts. (Using a 1080i 60 inch plasma Pioneer TV, and Comcast HDTV service.) Normally, analog signal on channel 7 would be HD on 807...Looks the same.

  1. First off, to view stuff in HD, you must recieve and HD signal, your cable box must be HD capable (there will be a small sticker on the cablebox that says HD ready or HD capable if it is). You also must have a digital TV (if the TV is digital there will be a connector in the back of the TV labeled "component"), plus the TV has to be HD ready. There will be a sticker that notes if it is just like with the cablebox. And finally you need to have digital connectors. For the video you will have 3 wires colored Blue, Green, and Red. Then you need the audio cables which can be the basic white and red audio cables. Once you have that set up, just turn on the cable box and TV and go up to the 800`s channels. The channels for HD are different depending on location so just scroll around until you see the channels. The channels will be labeled, with their normal label with HD at the end. For example, Disney is DIS. So Disney HD is DISHD. All channels that you get are also available in HD, also if you purchase another channel such as HBO, you will get HBOHD along with the normal HBO.

    Hope that helps.

  2. Use the setup button on the remote or the front panel of the HD box.  The HD box may need to be turned off (but plugged in)  to get this to work (TV on of course so you can see the setup menu).  One of the video selections is the HD resolution.  Set it to 1080i.

Make sure you check out a broadcast that you know is HD first.  A lot of stuff on the networks, particularly during the day, is still broadcast at low res, even though you are tuned to an HD cable channel.
