recently a cable guy came to my house, I wasnt home but my daughter was. He told her the cable company monitored out cable use and determined we had an unauthorized cable box in use and he needed to come into our home and check it out. Needless to say my daughter wouldnt let him in and called me. Now dont get the wrong idea, we dont have an unauthorized cable box and have no idea what he was talking about, I called the cable company and they said they didnt know anything about sending out anybody to our home. My question is can a cable company monitor and determine there is an un authorize cable box in use without entering your home and actually seeing it?

  1. Nope, they cant. The guy that came over wasn't from the cable company. Creepy! That guy was probably over to case out your house. Lock up and get some security, or you may be robbed. BTW I still think Comcrap sucks, but that is my only option for throttled the c**p out of, cannot even use Lotus Notes because Bitorrent blocking technology is not perfect, and cannot download LEGAL Linux Isos, high speed (and high priced) Internet. ARGHHH! BTW we pay $80 for Internet WITH cable subscription. It's $130 without. d**n monopolies.

Anyway, careful not to get robbed...

  2. maybe your neighboor was trying to get somekind of Internet connection or tv cable satellite , if ( for example ) your neighboor was trying to get time warner cable , the cable guy checks if anyone around that neighboorhood is using their service without being registered so if your cable or Internet connection is not registered with them and you're using their service they will cut your line and report you for ( stealing cable or Internet connections ) but you still have to be careful maybe it wasn't that .
