Question:

Comcast internet and Linksys router problems...?

I have Comcast High Speed Internet and Linksys WRT54G wireless router. A few months ago, I started getting kicked off the internet every few hours and getting error messages that the computer could not connect to the DNS server and did I want to reset the wireless adapter (which doesn't solve the problem.) The only thing that re-connects me, is to call Comcast and have them reset the modem on their end. What is going on and why did this just start happening? (I am also running Windows Vista. Comcast is the only ISP in me area, so I can't switch to another.)

  1. Did you set up your router properly.

Make sure you are cloning the Mac Address of the primary computer.

  2. Have you tried to reset your router? On the back is a small hole. Power down your router and use something like a bent paperclip, insert in the hole, push and hold for 30 seconds. Power your router back up .You need to be sure and put your password and WEP key back in.

  3. Sounds like you should get Comcast to replace the router if the only way to get it to work is to do a reset of the modem.  They definately don't last forever.  I think I am on my 3rd modem from Comcast..../
