Hi,

Comcast sent to me a letter explaining that I have to switch my Comcast Digital Phone service to Comcast Digital Voice. If I don't switch my phone service will be terminated. The problem is: They want to change my current phone number also, witch I AM NOT WILLING TO GIVE UP.

They tried to explain with some FCC rules .....#$%%&&**(**^% .....

Do we have any law that protects me and my phone number as a 5 years long customer who paid always on time??? That particular number I have had for 8 1/2 years and don,t understand why so big company is looking after my phone number?

Any help out there?

PS: I don't have problem with switching from Comcast Digital Phone service to Comcast Digital Voice by itself.

Thank You.

  1. You should be able to KEEP your phone number.!! Read this link, and see if it is any help....(some new FCC rulings:) http://www.fcc.gov/cgb/consumerfacts/num...

  2. Nope, you're stuck...

  3. One thing about service companies, is they will do anything in their power to keep you as a customer, not because they want to service you (like they say they do), but they want your money, and by losing a customer, they are losing money going into their pockets

Use that fact to your advantage, tell them that you don't mind switching, because it would be a similar service under a different name (and some other subtle differences), but that you don't want to give up your number, and if (based on the FCC rules they are trying to push onto you) have to change your number, then you will change your telephone service to (insert other phone company here), when they get word of that they are bound to say something like "we will do the best we can to keep your phone number, but we can't make any promises" or something like that, and since they don't want you to switch services, there is a high chance you can keep your number

Or if they don't let you keep your number, do exactly what you threatened, sign up for a different phone service, wait about a year to so, and call back and have your service switched back to Comcast, and since you are a "new customer" they should have the number transfer plan, or if not, say that you are going to keep whatever service you switched to, since they want you as a customer, they will probably take that threat and let you keep your number, otherwise, the other service is probably better for you then

I have never seen a situation where threatening a service company (within reason) that you would leave them if they don't give something or let some transfer or something, didn't work, because if they didn't, it only proved that they didn't care having you as a customer

  4. Complain loudly to the FCC.

I have never heard a good thing about Comcast and always avoided them like the plague. They pull this sort of stunt all the time. If it's not forcing you to change your number, they're filtering your online traffic without your consent.
