What he said next

Come into the Garden Maud

(Alfred, Lord Tennyson)

.....I wait for it to be deleted by one of the beings who dwell in the ether

I'm waiting patiently for thee

See me here, neath the apple bough

Shaded by this ancient tree.

Have I not waited long enow?

Come, darling, here and sit with me

You cannot refuse me now.

See the dainty daisies yawning

Faces kissed by the rising sun.

Bathed in sweet dew of the morning

Relishing the prize that they've won.

You are like these daisies dawning

Fresh, unsullied....my sweet one.

enow - old English for 'enough' see quote below to prove I'm not fibbing

"If we are mark'd to die, we are enow

To do our country loss; and if to live,

The fewer men the greater share of honour."

William Shakespeare (1564-1616); King Henry V

  1. The sound you hear across the pond is me, clapping wildly.  I always wondered what might have been said next...now I know!

  2. What a lovely garden, and to be filled with yawning daisies; opening over time, quiet, making not a sound. To be kissed by the sun, long, warm, compassionatly and then to be bathed in morning dew, refreshing, reviving, nourishing... what beauty you have penned, I absolutely loved it.

  3. mmmm nice.

  4. Beauty of expression combined with purity of form, who are YOU conspiring with?  Just kidding...  This was lovely, and I'm sure you know that Tennyson absolutely reveled in dramatic readings of his masterpiece whenever he hosted a dinner party at Farringford on the Isle of Wight.  Had he not yet "crossed the bar" I'm sure he would enjoy this one very much.  Best wishes, dear lady...

"When I was wont to meet her

    In the silent woody places

By the home that gave me birth,

We stood tranced in long embraces

    Mixt with kisses sweeter, sweeter

    Than anything on earth.

    A shadow flits before me,

Not thou, but like to thee..."

  5. Fine poetry AND a quote from Billy Waggledagger as well! We are fortunate today.

  6. This is marvelous, and that Bill guy is pretty good, too.
