  1. It is possible for this to happen...

    because both of these shapes are not triangles.

    The hypotenuse of the first triangle is not a straight line, as it bends a little bit inward. (towards the right angle of the whole shape).

    when the two smaller triangles are switched in the second figure, the "hypotenuse" bends the other way. if you were to measure the area of this outward bend and the actual hypotenuse of the triangle (if figure two was a triangle).... the area would exactly equal on square unit on the graph.

  3. Use paint to rearrange the picture if you need to. With the second picture, since the red part is longer, but bigger there is a longer space where the two smaller pieces fit together, leaving the open space.

  5. they moved the peices around to where it left a gap, and the red and green triangles are not the same size wich is why there is a gap
