What is a good age to start performing and where?

  1. I would say the sooner you can get started as a comedian the better.  It takes most comedians many years before they have decent material and have enough contacts to be able to do stand up comedy for a living.  Most comedians that are headliners at the major comedy clubs have been performing for at least ten years.

    If you are under 21, good places to perform include coffeehouses and churches.  If you are over 21, try to find a bar or comedy club that has an open mic night, and give it your best shot!

    As far as where you can come up with material? Pretty much any topic is fair game.  Many comedians write about the ridiculous things that people do.  That alone should give you a lot to work with.  Many comedians are skilled at storytelling.  I prefer quick one liners.

    What's the difference between trick or treating and a military recruiting station?

    With one you get a variety of tasty treats, with the other one you just get suckers!
