Comfortable salary in Melbourne?

I'm contemplating bet moving to Perth or Melbourne. I was wondering what's a decent salary to live comfortably in Melbourne.

would 80k-90k pa be considered comfortable? (It's just me and my wife)

Are you planning to have a mortgage for say an apartment as well? Or even a house?

Would 80K-90K be the total salary between you two?

If so, I would say - probably errr....just sufficient, not lavish. I hate to say it would be tough. But it could be.... Definitely not easy.

Mortgage would be the kill in the equation.

Don't know much about Perth. A friend lives there and was told - that town is just as expensive nowadays.

That could be considered comfortable for a family of 4 in the outer suburbs of Melbourne  

So yes it could be considered quite comfortable for a couple

What I consider comfortable and what you consider comfortable may be miles apart. Melbourne is more expensive because of the need for warmer clothes, heating, and east coast metropolitan living. Perth is cheaper because of its climate, more laid back lifestyle and lower rents. You may need to do some research as far as housing costs, etc.
