The girl behind the counter asked me where I was travelling to and when I told her I was going to Glasgow she said I was not allowed to buy either southeren comfort or Jack Daniels if I was travelling to Glasgow. She said I could buy any other whiskey but not those two. Can anyone explain to me why I am not allowed to bring back Southern Comfort or JD from Ireland to Scotland?

  1. I would imagine that it is because these products are of non EU origin, and would therefore attract different rates of excise (import) duty into different EU countries.

  2. Because it's S***e!

Why would you want that muck when you could get Jameson, Powers, Paddy or Bushmills?

  3. Huh??

I think she must have been joking with you mate!

  4. she was prob joking..unless its a duty free thing, i wanted to buy cheap f**s leavin dub airport a few weeks ago, but they were only sold to people goin to non eu destinations...maybe th whiskey thing is like that...??

  5. its a duty free thing. probably because they arent made in ireland - and you would be allowed bushmills etc because theyre irish. or else it might be if it made in the Eu. you can buy vodka and lots of other alcohol unless your travelling outside the EU
