Coming of age: Pittsburgh Steelers’ QB Big Ben limits walk-through throws – NFL News
Pittsburgh Steelers’ star quarterback Ben Roethlisberger has admitted for the first time that he is coming of age and said the factor has taken a toll on his walk-though throws.
He told Pittsburgh Post-Gazette that he used to throw every time in walk-through sessions of practice but has now been limited to a selective number of throws, a smart way to sustain in the longer run.
In an interview to the newspaper, the player, said:
"It's part of getting older, too. If you watch walk-throughs, I used to throw all the time. Now it's just backing off. Now I don't ever throw during walk-throughs. It's less throwing; I think that's smart anyway. As you get older, you just need to take care
of yourself whether you're hurt or not."
The QB's age factor is clearly reflective in the number of injuries he has suffered since last season. He disclosed to the newspaper that he still carries the injury of little torn rotator cuff but insisted it is just a soreness and nothing serious.
Ben said of the injury:
"I'm good. It's OK, just sore. I have a little torn rotator cuff. That doesn't heal. We just have to hope it doesn't tear the rest of the way, according to Doc."
It came as surprise to some circles that the player’s injury is a rotator tear as earlier there was a common belief that he had suffered a shoulder injury.
Big Ben had also suffered a sprained ankle and before that fractured thumb during the latter part of the last season. He was pretty much nursing his injuries throughout that part.
The injury of rotator tear reportedly occurred in the Steelers game against their American Football Conference (AFC) North division rivals the Baltimore Ravens on November 06, 2011.
Interestingly, the injury had not been earlier disclosed by either the player or the team. Still there is no comment from the team about its latest reports.
Roethlisberger is at training camp along with his teammates and appears not facing prospects of being on the sidelines due to the injury.
