Coming to the UK to get married under visitor visa?

Hi,

I'm Vietnamese, currently working in the UK (under work permit 5 years, I've worked here 4 months so far, I have previously studied here since 2003).

I invited my gf to visit me in the UK (she is currently living in Vietnam), and I'm thinking of proposing (out of surprise) when she comes here and ask her to stay here and work with me.

So I just wonder if this is possible? I.e. She comes here under visitor visa, then we register for marriage, and her visa will be converted to Work permit dependant visa.

If this is possible, could any one please tell me how long/much this process will take?

If not, does that mean I have to ask her to apply for marriage visa?

If I am not wrong, you have to marry her in Vietnam first, then you can apply (you need to speak to you company's HR about this as they are sponsoring your work permit) for the WP dependant visa. you should check it on their website http://www.ind.homeoffice.gov.uk
