Coming under RTI would benefit BCCI, says Ajay Maken - Cricket News Update
The Union Sports Minister of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750, Ajay Maken, on Monday said that coming under the Right to Informational (RTI) Act would benefit the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
While talking to the media reporters in New http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Delhi-c780 yesterday, the Indian Sports Minister said that the bill will make all the 66 sports disciplines come under the RTI act and BCCI would have to come under the act for its own benefit as well as to ensure the
organization is running with transparency.
"When we talk about transparency and the RTI, it is about all the 66 sports disciplines including the BCCI,” said Maken while talking to the media reporters at the sidelines of an awards ceremony at the National Stadium. “It is public money that they are
dealing with and they should come out clean for their own benefit. Otherwise there will be a question mark on whatever good work they have done in the past," he added further.
The National Sports Development bill was earlier rejected by the parliament in its previous session and the Sports Ministry will now present a revised bill before the cabinet in the upcoming winter session.
Maken conceded that presenting the revised bill before the parliament and getting it approved is a challenge for him. However, he hoped this time the bill would get passed by the cabinet.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India is an autonomous sports body but the Sports Ministry now wants it to become a National Sports Federation (NSF). After being given the NSF status, BCCI would come under the purview of RTI Act.
BCCI had rejected the bill at its Working Committee meeting held in Kolkata last month, and last week wrote a 29-page letter to the Sports Minister, highlighting their reservations regarding the amended sports bill, which requires BCCI to come under the
purview of the RTI Act. Another autonomous sports body of India which is opposing the Sports Ministry’s suggestion is the Indian Olympic Association (IOA).
Former Indian skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kapil-Dev-c70234, had has also spoke in favour of the National Sports Development Bill and has asked the BCCI to become NSF as proposed by the Sports Ministry in the bill.
