Comma to the Top returns to racing and will run in the Malibu Stakes at Santa Anita
The 3-year-old gelding Comma to the Top hasn’t run since appearing in the Grade 1 Kentucky Derby at 1 ¼ miles on 7 May, 2011, where he finished an unplaced 19th, but he is expected to return to racing this fall.
The multiple stakes winner, Comma to the Top had a bone chip removed from an ankle last year and after that he landed three stakes races last fall at Hollywood Park.
Starting from Real Quiet Stakes on 6 November, 2010, at about 1 1/16 miles over Hollywood Park’s synthetic surface where he covered the distance in 1 minute and 43.56 seconds, defeated Prayer for Relief in the process.
Went about a mile on grass in his next start, the Grade 3 Generous Stakes on 27 November, 2010, and bagged the race under jockey Corey Nakatani with the winning time of 1 minute and 34.77 seconds.
Comma to the Top completed his hat-trick of wins in the Grade 1 CashCall Futurity Stakes over at Hollywood Park’s Poly Track at about 1 1/16 miles, and covered the distance in 1 minute and 44.72 seconds.
In the year 2011, Comma to the Top is winless in 4 starts so far, but his best race of 2011 is without a doubt the Grade 1 Santa Anita Derby, where he couldn’t find a way past Midnight Interlude and finished second in the 1 1/8 mile race on 9 April, 2011.
Prior to the Santa Anita Derby, Comma to the Top finished 4th twice, once in the Grade 3 El-Camino Real Derby at Golden Gate Fields and then at Santa Anita Park in the Grade 2 San Felipe.
Comma to the Top has won 6 of 14 starts with the earnings of $778,600, and since his return he has had two workouts which include a three furlong breeze at Hollywood Park on 11 October, as he shot the three furlong bullet in 37.40 seconds.
Trainer Peter Miller said that the 3-year-old gelding is six weeks away from making his first start in almost 6 months and Grade 1 Malibu Stakes over seven furlong at Santa Anita late December could be his comeback race.
