I can TRY to dwnload some things on to my jump drive, but it can not be installation programs. My downloads wont work, nor can i access task manger. i have a program called ODBC but i do not know how to work it. i can access the net. 4. ok is it a registry corruption or virus prob. i guess a mixture of both...

open start menu>run  type msconfig ....select selective startup and uncheck load startup items..restart

download RRT (remove restrictions tool) from the net..

download ATF cleaner (removes temp files)

    download hijack this

    download security task manager

these programs need not be installed.

    RRT would enable your taskmanager.

Hijackthis helps in scanning malicious files and registry changes....it can fix minor things but it will help you in narrowing down the problem.....you also scan and save the log of the scan and paste in on the site bleeping computer for dedicated support in removal of virus. It also has a process manager(task manager) in it under miscellaneous tools..through which you can check what all programs are running.

To repair registry and sytem files....goto command prompt and type this command

    SFC /SCANNOW

it would ask for your windows XP CD.

You could also repair your OS by booting with XP cd and installing XP.....it would automatically ask you if you wanna repair your windows.

If you really wanna remove virus i would suggest you to go to these sites for removal

    bleeping computer

if you are sure you have a registry problem check this microsoft knowledge base just to be sure.
