  1. when you buy ticket it is the code use in an airline:

    F- refers to first class

    Y- economy class

J- not sure but perhaps business class.

The first two am very sure as Y, is given to us who has the benefits (lifetime if you serve 20 years) of having free RT (round trip) ticket to any destinations our airline goes. Of course subject to space availablility. The F is when I ride as flight mechanic, but I may be right cause the A340 i have a "J", which I get to seat in the business class.

  2. there is no specific reason fr this.

the seat numbering can be changed as per operetor will.

    generally

f is fr first class...front seats

    y fr business middle seats

    j fr economy rear seats

  3. There three basic classes, First, Business and Economy.  These can be expanded like Eva Air's Deluxe Economy, offering economy service in Business Class Seats, or SIA's 8 First Class Suites in First Class.  Years ago Pan Am had a First Class Sleeper class which allowed you to use beds on the upper deck.  It replace the lounge configuration and I only experienced it on a Tokyo-Singapore flight.

What you refer to is the Ticket Class which indicates how much you paid for it.  It determines whether you can change things like return date or rerouting, and even seat availability.  J class fills pretty quick and you might not be able to get a seat while a Y class ticket can.

Note I was wrong it is Business but the codes do reflect your cost and data.  You can find a complete breakdown on the codes here, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Travel_clas...

    Cheers
