Question:

Commercial Pilots License training after 2 hrs from obtaining the PPL?

I want to complete my PPL and then finish my degree to do my CPL. The degree might take approximately 2yrs after I complete my PPL. I was wondering if my PPL would expire within the two years when I finish my degree if I stay without flying.

Do I have to retrain to do my CPL? Do I need to retake flying classes or the FAA written test if I stay out of flying 2 years? Any idea? I would appreciate a lot.

Thanks!

  1. The PPL does not expire.  It is your flight currency which expires.

You must gain necessary number of flight hours to apply for a CPL.  But you do not, necessarily, have to retake training classes.   Do not take the written FAA CPL written exam until you are ready to begin CPL training.  The written exam can, and frequently does, expire if you wait too long for the CPL flight test.

    Ask a local flight instructor.
