My mum asked me last night which I was going to do with my bub when the time comes and I honestly hadn't given it much thought. I think I'd probably cook most of it but perhaps use some pre made stuff also. What do you do or recommend and why?

  1. I make my own and it's very easy. At first all they have is pureed veg so all you need to do is cook veg on it's own and puree. If too thick add your milk or formula. It's also a lot cheaper. I just put it into an ice cube tray and when frozen, knock it out into a bag. When I'm ready to feed her I just defrost one. Jars of food are great when you are on the go but my 4 year old wouldn't eat them once he's had the home cooked stuff. Now he won't eat anything so enjoy it whilst it lasts.

  2. Cooking your own is better, the food retains more vitamins and nutrients. I used pre-made, because I was always on the go. I used Nature's Best at Wal-Mart. I think babies transition to people food better if they are already eating it, because you cook it at home and they like the taste.

  3. I use Gerber most of the time.  But my 8 month old eats table foods such as fruit, cheese, yogurt and veggies.  So I find myself cooking carrots and things for her a lot.  Im a full time nursing student and my husband works crazy hours, so its easier for us to just open a jar when need be.

  4. The stuff from the store is good for the baby or it would be able to be sold and used to feed our angels. It is alot of hard work cooking baby food. If you can i would do it but who has time for that? If you read more about the stuff at the store you can read that nothing bad is in it. I would only buy the organic kind and the best organic kind i could find. So, If you can cook it do if not no worries, your a mommy and baby's keep us busy! Good Luck

  5. I cooked my own when I had time, had jars around also though.

  6. I cooked homemade sometimes when i could but used the organic baby food in a jar when i was out and about or just couldn't get to the kitchen to cook anything up.  I will do the same thing this time around.  It is hard work making the baby food yourself and some stuff you aren't suppose to do at home because of the way it has to be cooked and everything but most of it is fine.  Really the sweet potatoes aren't that hard, bananas are easy, carrots don't take much....but some of the stuff just takes awhile to cook and cool and then put away properly so it doesn't spoil before you use it

  7. I am planning on cooking my own as much as I can, but if I  need to I will buy some as well.  Cooking your own will cost you less money as well.

  8. I cook my own when I have the time; I use jarred (organic) baby food when I'm on the go with my son! =]

Variety; it's the spice of life! =]

  9. I dont think that there is anything wrong with jarred food but im a bit fussy with stuff like that - all the extra stuff they have to put in it to keep it "good" for that long......yuck....and for whoever said its a lot of work cooking for a baby - it is not hard at all. All they eat for the first few months is vegies and fruit....I bought some specialty baby food ice cube trays(any ice cube trays will do) and usually once a week i cook up a whole lot of vegies and fruit, freeze it and then put the cubes in snap-lock bags, so when I need to feed my son, i just grab a couple of cubes and defrost them. Easy. Its really cheap too. A kilo of carrots or pears only costs about $2-$3 and I can get about 7 meals out of that. They are easy to cook too, just peel and dice them, whack them in the microwave with some boiling water (or in a pot on the stove) and let them simmer until theyre really soft. I usually do it while im getting dinner ready or cleaning up. I usually have some jars of organic food for emergencies, but even if i go out, i put the frozen cubes in a bowl w/ a lid and by the time he wants to eat, they are usually still frozen or are just starting to thaw.

Im happy coz I know whats in it and I know its good for my son and my son is happy coz he gets yummy fresh vegies!

  10. i would go with making your own, if you have the time and help you need. i would have loved to done that with mine but i never had the time(single mom=( )a plus side to making it yourself would be you know where the food came from, but if you do make it yourself buy the organic food because it isn't sprayed with them nasty chemical, wouldn't want the baby eating that!

  11. coooooook

  12. I plan on cooking my own, since my parents grow their own vegetables and always have plenty to share.

  13. i am making my own and it is soo easy! it doesnt take very long and is a lot cheaper to make your own.

here is the website that i use for all my information,

  14. My baby just started, I'm feeding him jarred. Organic mostly. My husband and I both work full time. If I find time I will probably try cooking some. Just haven't got that far. I say if you have the time, and patience, go for it. But, I dont think there is anything wrong with the jarred food either. Do both if you want!
