Commercial cross country flights?

do my cross country flight that have to be 100nm vfr day and night have to be dual with an instructor for my commercial certificate? if so what is the reason for it?

  1. 61.129 (a) part 3

    required are 20 hours of flight instruction including:

    iii) one 2 hour cross country day 100nm

    iv) one 2 hour cross country night 100nm

    The key words here are flight instruction.  You cannot give yourself flight instruction... you'll need to do it with an instructor.


  2. Add to Andrew's response that VFR is not included in that package.  I know of one man that spent 200 tries before he could take off and land on instruments only.
