  1. Maths and Physics are absolutely essential to become a pilot...

Flying a plane isn't like driving a car down to the mall...You have to keep a multi-tonne, million dollar vehicle, along with the 200-500 odd people inside...

It's not at all easy...You have to undergo extensive training, psycology tests, physical tests etc to make sure you're suitable for the job...

You have to be able to calculate time, fuel amounts, wind direction,

and a variety of other calculations, that have their roots in maths and physics...

So there's no chance of completing the course without maths and physics...

The course alltogether could go upto 40lakhs...

But the renumeration is pretty good too...

  2. do maths and physics to ensure a place

  4. If you want to work for a major airline, it helps to have a 4 year degree and it does not have to be in math, physics, aeronautical sciences or such. As John B says, if you can pass 6th grade math, you can do all the calculations required to be a pilot. And yes, you are allowed to use calculators in the tests. A degree can be in most anything. Smaller airlines do not always require a degree. You need the ratings; minimums are Commercial Pilot, Multi-Engine Instrument. The majors of course want the ratings also but generally prefer those with a Bachelor's degree.

There are colleges you can attend and get a degree in Aviation along with your ratings such as Embry Riddle or North Dakota. But if you already have a Bachelor's, you now must attend a commercial flight school to obtain the necessary ratings. They are not inexpensive. All of these ratings and prices relate to the US, but the required ratings in Australia or Canada are going to be the same and you can translate the cost. A good commercial flight school will run you approximately anywhere from $50,000 USD to $70,000. Possibly even more depending. You can do things to cut costs like obtaining your Private Pilot certificate and instrument rating before going to a formal flight school. There you can obtain your Commercial and multi-engine instrument ratings. After you've put in sufficient time, you can then move up to the Airline Transport Pilot rating (or its equivalent in a different country).
