Question:

Commercials of Obama in Georgia?

Obama has begun running commercials in Georgia. In the one I saw, he said he was raised by a "single mom

To me, a single mom implies that the woman was not married at the time. In this state, there are probably more single moms that fit that category than married or divorced. If that's what I got out of his message, I'm sure many others got the same message.

Well, I looked him up in Wikopedia and his mother married his father and was later divorced. Then she married another man. Hardly a single woman.

Does this constitute a slight bending of the facts or a bald-faced lie?

  1. Being a single dad myself, I am offended by him bending the facts in an attempt to appeal to people in my situation.

I guess I could say I was raised by a single mom also--I only had one. Anyone can bend the facts like that, but it's still wrong!

  2. NO it does not. His parents divorced when he was 2 years old. His mother remarried when he was 6. there were 4 years that she was a divorced mother raising her son on her own. This makes her a single mother.  His father was out of his life and did not see him again until he was 11 y ears old and only 1 time. His mother divorced her 2nd husband when he was 10 years old. She never remarried. So he told the truth, there was no bending of the facts. He never indicated that his mother was an unwed mother and I never got that from the ad.

  3. You are very observant.

  4. bending the facts to fit his purposes.

  5. His mother also divorced her second husband, she was then a SINGLE woman raising her children alone.

Unwed is the old term for a woman that had a child without the benefit of marriage.

Any woman without a partner, raising her children, be it because of death or divorce can be correctly termed a single woman.  A woman without partner is single.

  6. He will pander using any and all manner of absurdity and, if need be, outright lies.
