Commissioner Gary Bettman confident St. Louis Blues have bright future -NHL Update
National Hockey League (NHL) Commissioner, Gary Bettman, can finally tick the St. Louis Blues team of his things to do list as the team officially was taken over by a well known local group of investors.
Seeing how Blues are now under Tom Stillman, a local beer distributor who is known for his love of the sport of the St. Louis team, Gary Bettman is more than confident that the team is in very good hands along with reassuring the fans that their future is
definitely bright.
"We know the future is extraordinarily bright," said Bettman. "The balance sheet looks much, much better, much, much stronger. I know he won't rest until the players are hoisting the Stanley Cup."
The investment group is known as Summit Distributing, of which Stillman is chairman and chief executive officer.
The 2011-2012 NHL regular season was certainly one that reasserts Bettman’s beliefs as St. Louis Blues ended second overall in the Western Conference, eliminated San Jose Sharks in the quarterfinals but their run for the championship was cut short when Los
Angeles Kings ousted them in Game 4.
Being sold to the Stillman headed group for $130 million, the team’s price definitely fell from the previous amount, $150 million, which was paid for it back in 2006.
Despite the fall in price, St. Louis Blues president, John Davidson, is confident that it does not affect the club in any practical sense and that the team is still doing completely fine.
"If you study the franchise, it's in pretty good shape regarding the hockey itself," Davidson said. "I'm not going to talk about business because that's not my business right now to talk about business.
Only a person who thoroughly knows the sport of hockey and has been a fan throughout his life can really run an NHL club the right way and now with Tom Stillman heading the Blues ship, it seems that they will  eventually be a Stanley Cup winning club.
This year was just a demo according to a lot of St. Louis executives, meaning that next season could have fans in for a wild run.
