Pectus carinatum/pigeon breast is not really a common disorder. To my knowledge, the cause of it is usually not known. Some times it can be an inherited disorder, sometimes a developmental problem with connective tissue (like Marfan, as you mentioned). Most people with pectus carinatum dont have any problems with the condition, only the cosmetic part. Only in rare cases is it combined with heart/lung disease, scoliosis/skeletal anomalies.
