The newly appointed skipper of the Sri Lankan cricket team, Mahela Jayawardene, is unhappy with the four wicket loss to India in the second game of the Commonwealth Bank Series played at WACA, Perth on Wednesday, February 8.
Jayawardene felt that the Lankans were some 30-40 runs short of what they should have scored at Perth. Batting first the Asian http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Lions-c808 racked up 230 runs, while the Indians in reply chased down the total in 46.4 overs with four wickets to spare.
According to the Lankan skipper, 260-270 would have been the par score but failure to build partnerships led to their debacle.
Jayewardene said, “We felt we were probably 30-40 runs short of our target. We had a good start. We just had to have one more big partnership, we would have been around 260-270. That was our target but we fell short of.”

singles.
He said, “When you are defending 230, you are trying to save as many singles as possible. The only way we would win this one-day game was by picking up wickets. I didn't mind them scoring boundaries. It was a tough wicket to get singles. I didn't want them
to get that.”
Defending a mediocre total, the Lankan bowlers put up a valiant effort. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/SL-Malinga-c2540, had an off-day compared to his high standards and
went for a few runs. The right-arm speedster conceded 49 runs from nine overs while taking the solitary wicket of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/V-Sehwag-c2739.
On the performance of his ace bowler, Jayawardene said, “Lasith did bowl his yorkers. Any other day, he would have probably picked up a couple of wickets.”
Sri Lanka is due to face the hosts http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 in their next match. The match is scheduled to be played at Perth on Friday, February 10.
