Commonwealth Games 2010: Team New Zealand’s schedule for Day 3
The New Zealand team was extremely enthusiastic on Day 2 of the 19th Commonwealth Games in New Delhi, as their swimmers performed brilliantly in the semi-final events of the heats. All kiwi swimmers successfully qualified the heats and made their way to the semi-final rounds on Tuesday. Archery: In the men’s compound quarter-finals of the archery discipline, Stephen Clifton, Tony Waddick and Shaun Teasdale will be contesting for a medal. On the other hand, Stephanie Croskery and Amanda McGregor will represent New Zealand in the women’s event. The participation of Anne Mitchell in this event is an unanswered questioned as she still has to pass the qualifying event.
Athletics: In the men’s 5000 metre final event, New Zealand will be represented by Adrian Blincoe.
Badminton: In the badminton tournaments, New Zealand will be playing against Singapore. It will be mixed teams group match and the names of the athletes have not been disclosed as yet.
Bowls: In the men’s triples group matches, New Zealand will be represented by Shannon McIlroy, Richard Girvan and Andrew Todd. New Zealand will be playing against Brunei and Niue. In the women’s doubles match, Jan Khan and Manu Timoti will be playing against the pair from Canada. For the men’s pairs group meets, Daniel Delany and Richard Collett will be playing against Malta and Falkland Islands. In the women’s triple group matches, Karen Coombe, Dale Lang and Genevieve Baildon will be playing against Northern Ireland and Niue.
Boxing: The qualification bouts results are due today. The weigh in sessions were postponed to Day 2 due to inaccurate scales present at the Games Village. Angus Donaldson weighing 60 kg, Nathon McEwen weighing 75 kg, Anthony Taylor weighing 64 kg, Reece Papuni weighing 81 kg, David Aloua weighing 91 kg and Joseph Parker weighing over 91 kg, will be on Team New Zealand’s boxing squad on the third day of the Delhi Games.
Cycling, Track: For the men’s event, Sam Webster, Simon van Velthooven and Eddie Dawkins will be contesting for New Zealand. Gemma Dudley, Joanne Kiesanowski, Lauren Ellis will be contesting the 25 km points race on Day 2, while Shane Archbold, Marc Ryan and Aaron Gate will be cycling in the men’s 40 km points race. For the men’s sprint and first round qualification, the short listed athletes include Eddie Dawkins, Simon van Velthooven and Sam Webster. Sam Bewley, Westley Gough, Peter Latham and Jesse Sergent will be in the team pursuit qualification on Wednesday.
Hockey: Day 3 will witness a pool match where New Zealand will play against South Africa.
Gymnastics: The qualification round is still under way for the individual event. Patrick Peng, Holly Moon, Briana Mitchell and Jordan Rae will be competing in the individual all around final event if they manage to qualify.
Shooting: After an extremely low turnout at the shooting event on the second day of the competitions, athletes have already lost the enthusiasm to play. Myles Brown-Cole and Allan Sinclair will be contesting the men’s pair’s double trap and are expecting fans to show up and cheer them.
Squash: If they qualify, Campbell Grayson will be playing at the men’s single quarter finals, while Jaclyn Hawkes and Joelle King will be playing at the women’s single quarter finals.
