Commonwealth Games Delhi 2010: Fans excited for the Opening Ceremony
The charm of the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympics 2008 had an everlasting impact on the spectators. Those who witnessed the event cherish it as a lifetime experience. Something of the same sort is expected from the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games, New Delhi.
The local spectators and those have flown all the way to Delhi are looking forward to the event with great enthusiasm and excitement. The officials of the Organizing Committee have revealed that all the tickets for the opening ceremony have been sold out and the crowd is all set to see the world come together at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on Sunday.
The event will be two hour long, and the richest of the Indian culture will be showcased for all those who have come to Delhi to make the Games a memorable event. The intensity of the allegations and criticism for the Delhi Games has been seem to decrease, since all the delegations are preparing to represent their country in the best possible way at the opening ceremony. The statistics given by the representatives of the Organizing Committee reveal that the tickets for the opening ceremony were priced at Rs 50,000, Rs 25,000, Rs 5000 and Rs 1000 per ticket.
When a senior official of the Organizing Committee was approached by a news correspondent, he told him very enthusiastically that all the tickets for the ceremony have been sold out and it is a houseful at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. He also added that those who missed the chance of buying the ticket to the event should not miss the live broadcast of the event on the Television.
The schedule of the evening has been published on the brochures of the Games and is as follows. The event is divided into six segments, starting with The Rhythm of India. Swagatam will follow proceeding Tree of Knowledge, Yoga, and the Great India Journey. Last but not the least; the Commonwealth Games Anthem will be played which has been composed by AR Rehman. The closing ceremony is scheduled to take place on the 14th October at the same venue. The tickets for this event are priced at Rs 50,000, Rs 20,000, Rs 4000 and Rs 750 per ticket.
It is a pleasant surprise that the crisis hit event has a houseful for the opening ceremony. When questioned about the tickets for the closing ceremony, the Organizing Committee representative said that almost all the tickets worth Rs 750 for the closing ceremony have been sold out. He added that he hopes that the Games will end on a happy note and wants the closing ceremony to also be a houseful. Talking about the preparation process of the Games, he said that the International media did a negative campaign against the Games, which turned out to be a huge setback for the Organizing Committee and the government of India. He was glad that the fans and spectators have ruled out any apprehensions about the security management of the event.
Queen’s Baton received a very warm welcome at the Delhi secretariat, which is the office of the Delhi government. The Organizing Committee officials and Delhi’s Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit were happy at the occasion when the baton reached Delhi on Friday.
After travelling 190000 kilometres across the world, the baton had entered Delhi on Thursday. The baton’s journey will officially end at the opening ceremony at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on Sunday. The journey originated in London last year.
After the collapse of a footbridge near the Nehru Stadium, the government of India reached out for the Indian Army to take over the project of building the footbridge outside the stadium. The bridge was handed over to the Delhi government on Friday. The government has announced that not all the shops and commercial areas will operate on the days of the opening and closing ceremony of the Games.
India is hosting 7000 athletes from 71 participating nations this year, after the Asian Games that hosted by the country in 1982.
