Commonwealth Games Delhi 2010: Threats for Mumbai Style Attacks during Closing Ceremony
New Delhi – Indian intelligences agencies have warned the authorities of a possible attack from the militants on Thursday during the closing ceremony of the Delhi Commonwealth games. While giving the details, the intelligence officials indicated that the
militant groups operating in Kashmir and other parts of India can attack Indian capital on October 14 when 64,000 spectators would be attending the closing ceremony of the event.
It was shared with the media that militant groups which have been practicing their authority over a reasonable part of the country amid their demands for the freedom could try attracting the attention of the world. Keeping in sight the possible attacks from
the militant groups, more than 1000 police personnel and paramilitary soldiers have been deployed into the city with a focus on the ceremony being held at Jawaharlal Nehru stadium.
In this regard, Delhi Metro has been a major concern for the authorities focusing on security measures, perhaps that is the reason that the police have advised the spectators to either travel by system, to use the bus or to walk to the stadium.
Details of a possible attack to be launched on the city by the militants came to light when two days ago Indian army seized reportedly 50kg explosives which were smuggled to Delhi and were to be used for attacking on the city. Moreover, the military intelligence
claimed to find two consignments of explosives which were hidden in the apple boxes placed among the passenger luggage on one of the bus heading to New Delhi from Kashmir.
Moreover, the anti terror investigators told the media that they had arrested a militant which belonged to Niksal army (the militants which, finding no other ways to obtain their rights finally had to pick up guns to settle the matters). The anti terror
investigators said that the militant caught a day ago had confessed that the explosive was to be used for attacking the city with the aim to have the attention from the countries around the globe.
Giving his remarks a security official told the media that Pakistan, the neighbouring country of India was involved in taking the steps which could lead to an unhappy end of the sports event. However, when a media correspondent asked the security official
that why would Pakistan get involved into such activities when it clearly knows that India would instantly point its fingers towards it in case of any security mishap, the officials had no answer to come up with.
Commenting upon the press briefing of the security officials claiming to have caught explosives, an international media correspondent said that world had been realizing the way India had been occupying the rights of minorities living in it, and in order
to avoid the world pressure, India always tries diverting the attention of the neutral bodies by blaming others, particularly Pakistan.
He further said that no one has advised India to deprive off its people from their basic rights like it has done in case of Niksals, who have chosen to fight after the suppression of 60 years. He further said that human inequality in India had been protected
by religion, there had been many equipped organizations comprises of Hindu majority which had been attacking upon churches of Christians, mosques of Muslims and temples of Buddhists. He said that in order to avoid the threats of violence from so called militants,
India had better opt for humanitarian approach rather than its traditional insistence upon suppressing the minorities.
The Indian official, while addressing the media said that the militants were expected to use airways, Delhi Metro and other possible routes to sabotage the climax of the games, however, he said, with tighter arrangements and high security alert, the chances
for any mishap had been reduced to minimal. He further said that paramilitary forces and police personnel would remain on high alert unless last foreign athlete and official would leave the country.
