Commonwealth Games in doubt, but Black Caps’ will tour India in November: Heath Mills
Despite India’s apparent failure in organising the 2010 Commonwealth Games in New Delhi, New Zealand’s cricket tour to India in November seems to be on schedule.
The build up to the 2010 Commonwealth Games has already been marred by concerns regarding the standard of arrangements, the incomplete construction work, which is well behind deadline and the security and safety of the participating athletes from around
the world.
Chairman of the New Zealand Cricket Players' Association, Heath Mills is in New http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754’s tour of India is concerned. Mills
does not feel that his men would have anything to worry about ahead of their tour of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 in November.
Mills has given the all-clear for the Black Caps’ to tour India in which the visitors will play 5 ODI’s and 3 Test matches. The Chairman of the New Zealand Cricket Players' Association has shown satisfaction on the security plan devised by the Board of Control
of Cricket in India (BCCI). Mills revealed that a detailed security plan was discussed with them and the BCCI’s security team had given them the right to question that plan rigorously. Though a few amendments were suggested by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mills-c76321 and his fellows, which
were wholeheartedly accepted by the Indian board, but overall, the plan was declared ‘OK’.
Mills opined, "From a cricket perspective, our pre-tour is going very well. We've been hugely buoyed by the support we've received,'' Mills said. "We've been very comfortable with things and have been impressed with the Board of Control for Cricket India
(BCCI) and the Indian Government's commitment to it.”
Mills said that there is a lot of difference in New Zealand’s tour of India and the Commonwealth Games as the former involves only two teams and the protection and security at the venue would be much easier than the Commonwealth Games event involving a number
of countries. He further added that he was pleased by the preparations for the tour of India.
He said, "That is a much bigger proposition and it's no surprise to me that things are working out a lot smoother for us in cricket.”
The other reason behind Mills’ contentment is India’s passionate approach towards the game of cricket. He said that for India, cricket is like religion and they are using their all resources to meet the requirements and get the job done well in time.
To a question regarding the upcoming Commonwealth Games, Mills said that it’s hard to say anything about the event but at the same time, he turned down talks that the event might be called off arguing that “there will be nations who will be prepared to come
anyway.”
People in New Delhi are quite angry at the “collective managerial failure” of the organising committee for the CWG. Local crowds are furious towards the event’s organising agencies and the amount of funds that appear to have gone into the ether.
In the meantime, the Commonwealth Organising Committee has apologised for its failure in making international standard arrangements for the event. Organising Committee’s treasurer AK Mattoo on Thursday admitted his team’s failure and has apologised for the
“collective failure”.
"I apologise for whatever has happened, whether directly or indirectly by us or by one of the stakeholders in this event.” said the treasurer. "I genuinely feel sorry for whatever has happened and would like to apologise not only on the part of the OC but
everybody else who is committed. This is a collective failure."
