Commonwealth committee equally responsible for New Delhi fiasco
India’s ambition of out doing the China’s display of Beijing Olympics has back fired badly, as now they are facing a prospect of failure.
China stunned the whole world in 2008 with its presentation of Olympics which included striking venues, outstanding performances and near about crystal clear organization.
Meanwhile, on the other hand the 19th Commonwealth Games have been touted as “shame games” after an awful administration regarding friendly games.
China have been quietly preparing for Asian games in Guangzhou, the world’s second biggest event after the Olympics, where more than eleven thousands athletes are expected to turn up, whereas India's hardships are increasing with every passing minute as
the work is still under progress.
Officials of China who are working on Asian games admitted that they knew in which department things have gone wrong but they opted to remain quite as they don’t want to create any controversy.
The statement by the Chinese official sparks one thing in mind that they are clearly referring to the corruption which has caused delays in construction of projects, the usage of low quality material etc.
It is a shame for India as the whole world is crying on their handling of the funds and mismanagement of schedule. There seems to be a big communication gap between the Commonwealth organizing committee and Indian organizing committee as CWG officials Mike
Fennell and Hooper have blamed the Indian organizers for the delay and feels that they are the ones because of whom the prestige of Commonwealth games is not in balance.
Though the greedy ministers and organizers have indulged in corruption, CWG committee should be held accountable as they should have monitored the progress of the games regularly. You can’t leave a nation on its own for seven days and think that everything
will be alright without keeping any check and balance of progress and funds.
The selection of India as a host nation for nineteenth Commonwealth Games was a controversial one. The CW organization opt New Delhi in spite of the security and health issues seven years back. Their rival bid from Ontario, Canada would have been the much
wiser.
Mr. Fennell and Mike Hooper should also be blamed for this fiasco because in order to promote the commonwealth games they opted for a better market over a better nation and a better city, which would have provided with full security and hygienic facilities.
The organizing committee of CW games in order gain popularity murdered the merit in bidding.
No matter India got the majority of votes for holding CW games, but the number of votes cannot suffice their failure to come up with up to mark preparations for the event. The reality is this that whoever is more powerful people will support that nation.
The Indians might have bought the votes instead of earning them. The greed of grabbing the biggest sponsors forced the Commonwealth organizing committee to gift the event to New Delhi, but now they are all pointing their guns in India’s direction.
What about their alleged role in influencing other nations to cast their vote in favour of India?
If India managed to pull out a miracle in the opening ceremony and throughout the tournament, then the critics will lavish praise for the Indians. It’s all about proving your mettle on the right time.
