Communication devices???

i dont like the way my parents control everything. i want to pay for something for myself and i want it simple. all i need is something that is small and can send text messages or instant messages or email. something that i can easily pay for or easily use. anyone have tips?

they do have phones that all they are for it texting but it will be more economic to get on you parents plan and get a text message plan
