  1. All animals are equal...

  2. A spectre is haunting Europe—the spectre of Communism !!!

    Quit the machines

    Go out, proletarians

    March and march

    Form up for the attack.

    Flags arrayed

    And weapons loaded,

    In cadenced step

    For the assault, advance!

    The world must be won,

    Arise proletarians!

    Our brothers' blood

    Calls for justice.

    Nothing can stop

    The wrath of the masses.

    In London, in Paris,

    Budapest and Berlin,

    Seize power

    Worker battalions!

    Take your revenge,

    Worker battalions!

    Our best

    Have died in the struggle,

    Punched, bludgeoned,

    Chained in prisons,

    We don't fear

    Either tortures or death.

    Forward proletarians!

    Be ready, be strong!

  3. My Religion is bigger than yours has it right.

(PS: World War 2 inspired Orwell to write 1984.)

  4. I'm not sure what book ITG was reading, but Animal Farm was not a critique of socialism or capitalism (although you are correct that Orwell was a socialist).  It was a critique of the Russian Revolution and the way Marxist ideas were twisted and bastardized to the point that the result of the revolution was a government just as corrupt as the one it overthrew.

  5. Orwell was a socialist!  Animal Farm and 1984 are critiques of capitalism, not of communism.  Strangely, in capitalistic countries it's used as an anti-communist or anti-socialist screed.

One basic theme in Animal Farm is that  animals (the 'proletariat') to band together to throw off oppression, but end up with a new government (the pigs) that is not much better.

  6. Actually, that's correct. Orwell was a devout leftist, but he was also anti-Stalin and that's why he wrote that book as warning of what happens when people hijack the Communist ideals and pervert them. The last scene actually shows pigs (Soviet government) fraternizing with humans (capitalists).
